Ghost stories in Muntinlupa City
By SHERYL GRADO LAUDATO
MUNTINLUPA Do you believe in ghosts? For people who live in a village somewhere in Muntinlupa City, well, they do. For some reasons, we decided not to mention the name of the village to protect the privacy of the area. Here are some of the ghost tales of the residents staying in the place.
Black cat
A school maintenance personnel, identified as a certain Paul Arcilla, was walking on his way home along tall grass earlier this month around lunchtime when he saw a black cat. Quite surprised, Arcilla walked on and the black cat followed him. The 30-minute trek brought them to the nipa hut. Arcilla said the cat seemed nice so he decided to give him food.
However, the cat refused to eat.
When Susan, the eldest daughter of Mang Paul, saw what his father was doing, she warned them. She said she thought the cat was different because its nose and eyes appeared like human beings.
They decided to bring the cat to the chapel. The cat was being carried by John Paul, 12, the youngest child of Mang Paul.
But before the three could have entered the chapel, the cat suddenly jumped out of John Paul's hands. In the wink of an eye, the cat was nowhere to be found.
Susan's family has just transferred to the village when she remembered the wounds that came out of her bodya, apparently when encountered lamanglupa (earthly creatures).
After she washed clothes near the lake, the fresh wounds started to come out in her arms.
She believed it was the second time she encountered similar creatures, the first being in Novaliches, Quezon City. She fetched a pail of water from a well when skin rashes came out all over her body.
Then Susan became ill. Seeing her condition, Mang Paul and his wife decided to bring her to the hospital. The couple went to their daughter's room and to their amazement, they saw Susan lying but her body did not touch the bed.
"Nung mapansin namin ng misis ko na hindi nakasayad ang likod ng panganay ko sa kama, alam ko na agad na hindi ito basta ordinaryong sakit, " (When my wife and I saw the situation, we knew it was not an ordinary case)'' Mang Paul said.
The family brought Susan to a faith healer. There they were told that Susan was being played by a "lamang lupa." They were advised to offer something to the "creatures.'' With chants and food, the family offered it to the "creatures" through the intercession of the faith healer. Then Susan got better.
Giant Shadow
Members of a religious group called Singles for Chist confessed that they once encountered a giant shadow which followed them after they attended a baptism in the village.
It was September 19 at about 8:30 p.m. when Joy Licup, 23; Jules Sumugod, 22; Haidee Osorio, 23; Celeste Brillo, 24; Paolo Castalone, 26; and Lito Mendoza, 32, all residents of the area, when they decided to walk home after the baptism party.
Crossing a small bridge, near the tall grass, Licup realized she forgot her cellphone. So she decided to go back to the party.
Her friends joined her in going back to the place. They got the phone and this time, when they went home, they noticed a gant shadow following them. They looked around but couldn't see anybody.
Licup panicked and shouted "diablo!" The group ran as fast as they can.
Copy-cat 'maligno'
Celeste Brillo, 24 and younger sister Marines, 23 were walking on a dark area in the village one day.
The sisters walked slowly with cellphones on their hands. When Celeste finished texting, she saw a woman approaching and looked like her sister. But when she turned her back, she saw her sister behind her. Her sister was also texting.
"Namutla talaga ako ng makasalubong ko 'yung kapatid ko as in pareho ng suot at xerox copy talaga sila. Kaso paglingon ko nasa likod ko naman yung sister ko at walang tigil sa pagte-text. Dun ko lang narealize na napaglaruan pala kami ng maligno dahil sabi ng matatanda samin mahilig daw manggaya ng anyo ang mga maligno para lang paglaruan ka," (My face turned red when I saw my sister texting behind me. The faith healers said that ghosts are usually like that they like to copy things!) Celeste said.
Mestizo priest
It was the second meeting of the Christian Life Program held inside the auditorium of the parish last September 12 at about 3 p.m. when one of the facilitators went to the comfort room to put make-up. When the facilitator was about to put the eyeliner, he was very surprised when he saw a priest described as mestizo standing near the window of the auditorium.
The facilitator freaked out and ran to his friends. But the group was surprised to see the priest in the casket which was about to be blessed in the chapel prior to his interment.
'Impakto' on the ceiling
One summer, some teenagers were playing volleyball in the playground of a school in the village.
Then one of the male players answered the call of nature and so he went to the comfort room.
There, he felt something strange. He thought someone's on the ceiling which was half-opened.
When he looked up, he saw a grayish, ugly creature on an attack position.
Scared, the victim fled the comfort room.
Possessed by 'spirit'
It was September 1997 when some people were walking along the dimly-lit "talahiban'' when Jay Sumugod, 25, freaked out at what he saw on a small bridge floating black casket.
Unfortunately, it was only Jay in the group who saw the casket. The people tried to pacify him but fought back.
"Ako mismo na kapatid niya, hindi niya nakilala at sobra ang lakas niya, biro mo ang dami na naming humahawak sa kanya pero hindi namin siya makaya. Nakakatakot pa ang mata niya noon dahil parang nagbabaga, sobrang pula," (Not even I, his brother, could control him. He was very very strong and he fought us,'' Jules testified.
The people let go of him. When Jay crossed the "talahiban,'' he fell down.
When Jay woke up, he couldn't even remember what transpired. He felt he was walking barefoot.
After the incident, Jay promised never to go back near that area.
'Ghost' passenger
Year 2001. Driving alone in his airconditioned owner-type jeepney, Elmer Ebora, pest controller, was on his way home when he saw an ordinary lady wearing a simple white blouse and dark slacks standing along the road.
Unexpectedly, the lady waved at him and so he stopped. Ebora gave the lady a ride.
The lady sat quietly despite conversation pieces by Ebora.
Then the guest passenger point the driver to her right side. Ebora stopped driving. The lady alighted from the vehicle and walked through the tall grass.
But he was even more surprised when smoke filled the area and the lady just disappeared.
Scared of what he saw, he drove fast but unfortunately, he met an accident when he hit a big tree.
Bystanders brought him to nearby hospital. Luckily, he survived the accident.
Curse of Nardong Putik's cave
Dimmed, muddy and creepy. These are the words to describe the cave where Nardong Putik hid when police hunted him. There were muddy plates, spoons, glass and even a shaver.
The place is believed to be cursed.
The year was 1998 when two unidentified male children went to the cave and found five spoons allegedly used by Nardong Putik.
When the two siblings reached home, the eldest one reportedly got sick and died in three days.
After his death, his younger brother also suffered the same fate and died. The doctor could not explain the death of the children.
After the wake, the mother of the two kids went to a faith healer. Without any questions, the faith healer said that the two children who passed away have to return something.
The mother remembered her children got five spoons at the cave. So the faith healer ordered her to return the spoons which she did.
Aling Elsie's struggles
Nine years have passed but Mrs. Elsie Brillo can't forget her struggles with the underworld creatures who frightened her and tried to kill her during pregnancy.
It was 1995 of June, 1:30 a.m, when Aling Elsie was walking home when a big bird attacked her. Fortunately, she fought the bird with her umbrella which she was using at that time because of the drizzle.
Few months later, another incident happened with Aling Elsie when she was about to go home late at night from the market.
When Aling Elsie reached the small bridge, she saw her husband also known as Mang Nanding, some few steps away from her.
"I called him but he just ignored me. I followed him because he was going somewhere. I decided to go home. To my surprise, my husband is in the house! When I told him I saw him somewhere, he said he just stayed home,'' Aling Elsie said.
The third incident happened when Aling Elsie and her younger sister Concepcion Claridad who was then 19 years old was walking home after they attended a beauty contest.
While walking in the grassy area, Concepcion saw a nipa hut with no lights and was frightened when she saw the door opened. She was surprised after seeing a white lady standing on the door and disappeared later.
The two went home and never talked about it.
