Halloween Haunting Screen Savers
(It also has a bunch of other cool Halloween themed screen savers on the left-hand side of page)
"Take a nighttime stroll through the Garrison House, the scene of a ghastly murder-suicide. Keep your eyes and ears open.. the restless dead haunt the darkened rooms and halls of this screen saver. Pay close attention, as you may see or hear something from beyond the grave. but please, never ever watch this screen saver at night while alone in a darkened room."
Now, I have been asked MANY times if this murder/suicide is a true story. I can find nothing, through records, internet searches, Hauntings in Vermont, NOTHING to back this story up. (Know how it is to ask a group of people about this and only get "Huh?")
I would say it's just an AWESOME screen saver! So - enjoy it! :O)
If you have any info. on it, please e-mail me.

In sept 1968 earl garrison was to have hung himself in the grave yard behind his home, his wife and children murdered in the house with every room showing a struggle... so it goes on my screen saver from freeze.com. I was trying to look up the murder/ suicide (massacre is word used by freeze.com ) so far I have found nothing. It was on route 9 in vermont... that I could find!! So is there a real story there or just a really good screen saver hook so I will buy the advanced version and get all the rooms and hopefully the rest of the story. Thank you for any information you can find.

Hello my name is David Dillenbeck and it is a true story Earl Garison was a carpenter and his wife Julia make's quilt's and pies and sell's them at bazaar's and they stopped going to church function's and bazaar's so a friend went over to there house to see what was wrong the car was there and the door was locked so he informed the Police and the Police went over and forced there way in and found dry blood on the wall's and there was sign's of a struggle in every room and they found Earl Garrison in the grave yard in the back yard hanging in the tree dead and that is all I can tell you for now.
Hi this is Debbie from CA. I think I know why Mr. Garrison killed his family and himself. He told his friend Larry that he heard voices in the old guest house. But Earl never told anyone he was hearing them. Thats a good reason to kill himself and his family.
I think it is just a cool screen saver- I have done extensive searches for this story and have come up empty handed as well. No one in Vermont has ever heard of it and through the libraries, collected periodicals, archived public records and sooooooo on. I have not been able to find anything either. IF I do find something ever. I will be sure to pass it along to you.

~*NOTE!*~ My best advice, is to go to freeze.com, and on their contact page is an address to write them. Write and ask if this screen saver story is for real - or not! If anyone should get a reply, ( I have written them as well ), please pass the information to us here!
I think the Earl Garrison thing is just something someone made up. I'm from Vermont and have never heard anything about that. Things from farther back than that are still being talked about and that has never come up. The only murders I've heard of are the Grafton murders and they happened in summer of '02.

Being a genealogist, I decided to look. According the social security death index,... there is no Earl Garrison listed as having died in Vermont in 1968. There is one that died in 1968 in Kansas though. I don't think this is a true story, just someones made up, cool screen saver.

I too thought that the story was true. I was so interested in the story that I bought the whole version of the screen saver. It is pretty cool, but the free version shows the best of what there is to see. My 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes are so intrigued by it! I told them that it was a true story and that I would find more information about it on the internet. I came up with nothing. I think that if it was a true story, there would be more information about it on the internet about it, not just links to the screen saver.
I enjoyed your web-site.
Sincerely,

According to an Unsolved Mysteries television broadcast this story of the Garrison's House being haunted is a true story. I have found little information on it and have found where the house, still to this day, sits in the woods off of Rural Route 9 in Vermont. Three police investigations where reported of different events happening within as well as outside of the abandoned house.

Let Me Know If This Helps!
This is a screen saver for The Garrison Massacre' and they are free too -- self installing. I love them all.

*Note: The site of this story is called 'The Mystery Network' ( curiously, Copyrights and Stories are provided by a site called 'Unsolved Mysteries' which is not part of the TV Show's Site ), and written by an author whom used the 'Garrison Murders' story as an inspiration for what they wrote. A very good story!
The main page which shows their posting is here, and the titles are: "The Garrison Diaries" (Part I) and (Part II)
Update 11/26/05
Glad to know I'm not the only one curious enough to inquire about the murder suicide in 1968. It is an awesome screen saver though...especially since I live on Cemetery Rd. and the cementery is right behind me. And get this...down the road is an old old house where a man named Farley Brady hung himself in the attic. There's a cemetery right behind that house too!

Update 3/16/06
Here's a link to a site I found while researching the Garrison's.... Some of it is similar, there is a carpenter in this story, wrong dates of course but it makes you wonder if the Garrison house murder/suicide is a made up form of this story...
Thought I'd pass it along...
