Poltergeist
( The Legend )
Poltergeist I -- In the quiet suburban haven of Cuesta Verde, a family of five peacefully lived their day-to-day lives. Then, abruptly, their quiet utopia was brutally shattered when their house was invaded by a phantasmal force that stole their youngest daughter away from them through the TV set. From there, it's a race against time to fight the hostile entities and retrieve little Carol Anne.
Starring Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Dominique Dunne, Oliver Robbins, Heather O'Rourke and a guest spot by Zelda Rubenstein.
There were three movie's made:
Poltergeist I -- 1982
Poltergeist II -- "The Other Side" -- 1986
Poltergeist III -- 1988
Being that the first movie was centered upon the urbanization where they lived being built on an old cemetery, ( where the spirit entities came from ), made this movie spooky and even easier to believe, for situations like so happen in our present time and day, not to mention all sort of 'ghostly activity' that goes along with it.
The spirit's seemed drawn to "Carol Anne" and follow her, ( and her family ), no matter where they moved too or what they did. They would beat the entities or subdue them for a time, but eventually they would find them again, and a whole new 'battle' would then take place. ( Hence, two more movie's ). The entities always wishing to feed off "Carol Anne's" energy, use her, or 'have her for their own.'
The Legend:
The Poltergeist movie's continued on, but the death's of some of the actor's made it even more 'spooky,' as myths and legends for the movie's being 'cursed' surrounded it, media and fans linking their death's to the movie's.
Dominique Dunne, ( oldest sister Dana ), wasn't in the second film, as she was strangled to death by her boyfriend. Julian Beck, ( Reverend Henry Kane), died of stomach cancer shortly after filming the 2nd movie. Will Sampson, who played the 'good spirit' in Poltergeist II, died after receiving a heart-lung transplant. Heather O'Rouke, ( Carol Anne ), died in 1988 sometime after the 3rd of a septic infection due to a bowel blockage that cause bacterial toxins to enter her system.
Needless to say, there hasn't been a fourth Poltergeist movie.
Their death's had no relation to the movie's, especially with the fact that many of the main character's/actor's are still alive today, but over-active minds made people spread gossip... and so the legend's began.

The Poltergeist Experience
Rogo, D. Scott
This is an introduction to poltergeists by a parapsychological investigator and author. Much of the impetus for writing it comes from a firsthand experience of poltergeists that occurred when Rogo investigated a case in 1974. He writes: "In one respect this book is a result of that case, for it prompted me to reevaluate and restudy everything I had ever learned about the phenomena" (pp. 12-13). Rogo surveys various types of poltergeist activity with illustrations from actual cases, but emphasis is placed on the psychology of the poltergeist. He presents a theory of poltergeist agency and takes pains to make the point that "the poltergeist is a terrible force" (p. 284).
