El Yunque:

Here in P.R., we have a rain forest called El Yunque. It's a great place with water falls, wild life, wild parrots, etc, and a great tourist attraction. When I was a teen, we'd all hang out there and swim in the lakes and rivers, or hike up the trails, camp out, etc. There have been many disappearances there also. Some people claim it's the Army, who have a base there, other's say it's U.F.O.'s. [for many have been sighted there]. Here's a story of mine that happened one night while there with a group of friends...

There are old "look-out" towers all over that mountain, and we'd decided to stop at each one on the way up. When we'd reached to about the third one, I was at the top of it, overlooking the darkness--for it was late at night, with a friend of mine. I heard a voice calling out to me, a strange voice I'd never heard before, becoming me to go to it. I turned to ask my friend if he'd heard it also, but he was gone.

I descended quickly, to find he wasn't with the others either. I asked them if they knew where he could be, but none could tell me more than maybe he had a "call of nature." I decided to look for him anyways, thinking it was odd that he would just go off like that. I went to the back part of the tower, and heard a muffled cry for help. He was there, hanging over the ledge, by a plant that was losing it's roots quickly! I grabbed him and started to pull, screaming at the others to come and help me.We got him back and safe.

Before I smacked him up-side the head for scaring me half to death, I asked him what made him go back there, alone and telling no one. He told me he'd heard a voice calling to him, that he felt as if in a trance, that he had to find out who it was, and then he fell. Thank goodness nothing happened!

What could've been calling to us that night? No one but him and I heard the voice. I've told this story before, and was suggested it could've been a "mountain spirit" that dislikes humans. [It could sure explain the other disappearances!]. I've seen trails that lead to no where but cliffs, paths that just--stop. I guess we might never be sure of just what it was, but my advice is to never go there alone. There have been changes made because of the Army base, and most of it is "cut-off" now, but still, it's my best advice.
