I got a good look at a
shadow figure about two years ago. I was working at a local diner at the time.
It's maybe 1/2 mile from our house here in Florida. It was around noon, in the
summer. Hot and humid, as Florida is apt to be at that time of day and year. I
was taking a bag of trash to the dumpster. The dumpster sat just in front of a
small stand of pine trees. An old fallen log was on the ground, rotting. It's
been there since before we moved down here four years ago, I think. The ground
dips away a bit just behind that log. As I was tossing the trash into the
dumpster, I glanced that way and clearly saw the outline of a head and shoulders
peeking up from behind the fallen log. I had a clear impression of being
watched, even though I didn't see any eyes in the thing. It was just solid
black, with smooth edges. No hair, or anything. As soon as I looked directly at
it, it ducked behind the log. I closed the lid on the dumpster and walked over
to see what was there, prepared to run the other direction if the need arose.
Nothing was behind the log aside from sand and scraggly grass. And I know for a
fact that whatever had been there hadn't jumped up and ran away. If it did, it
either moved fast enough that it was up and out of sight in the two seconds I
had my eyes off of the log, or else it had turned completely invisible. Any idea
as to what it might have been?
